Journalism Across Boundaries
 

Journalism Across Boundaries was a program designed to provide a brief training to young participants, mainly journalists or youth with journalistic interests. The main objective of the program was to deepen intercultural understanding between European and Palestinian youth. 24 participants who took part in this activity came from Germany, The Netherlands, Palestinians within the green line and Palestine. The program took place from May 21 - 26, 2001. The partners involved were: PYALARA, Deutsch-Palestinensischen Gesellschaft, IKV/Euro-Arab Dialogue From Below Project, and the Nazareth Arab Institute.

General Objectives:

  1. deepening intercultural understanding between European and Palestinian youth.

  2. acquisition and deepening of journalistic skills among European and Palestinian youth.

  3. raising awareness among European and Palestinian youth about the role of Euro- Arab-Israeli relations in the media coverage of the Palestinian question.

  4. increasing awareness and knowledge about life of Palestinian youth in a comparative Euro-Arab framework.
     

The project was funded by the European Union. Once new funding is secured, PYALARA intends to carry out the project and to follow up on some of the recommendations that came out of those workshops.
