Promoting youth rights in Palestine

PYALARA conducted a series of workshops about youth rights that seek to create awareness among teenagers. This project has been supported by the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung (FNS)/German Fund for Palestinian NGOs. At various parts in the West Bank, specially in the southern area, meetings were held during which hundreds of youth voiced their interpretations of what the concept of youth rights means to them. With the help of game-like discussion techniques, they were encouraged to reflect critically on the circumstances under which they live, and to come forward with ideas how to improve their rights and those of other youth.

It was clear from these meetings that the youth involved had never had the opportunity to meet and mingle, and to voice their concerns independently from their parents and teachers.
The project was funded for one year by FNS. Once new funding is secured, PYALARA intends to carry out the project in other areas in Palestine and to follow up on some of the recommendations that came out of those workshops.
