In April, 2002 PYALARA adopted a 6-month project called
“Youth to Youth hotline” under a sponsorship of UNICEF.
A cadre of 23 university students majoring in social
work and psychology received training on Psycho-social
intervention to provide first-hand psychological relief
to Palestinian adolescents. The project targets young
people under the age of 25 both males and females in all
Palestinian areas. The hotline operators work under both
external and internal supervision. It is worth noting
that the hotline operates 6 days a week between 11 a.m.
until 5 p.m.
We managed to serve around 400 Palestinian youth so far.
This success encouraged us to extend for one more year.
For this purpose we approached UNICEF for funding who
promised to partially sponsor the project.
Main Objectives of the Hot Line
-
Encourage Palestinian adolescents to talk about their
feelings under the grave political deterioration.
-
Alleviate the suffering of Palestinian adolescents by:
Providing them with emergency information and some tips
on psychological relief and release of tension.
