A  Group from PYALARA Participates In the World Economic Forum On the Middle East
Sharam El Sheik, Egypt

From the 20th to the 22nd of May, 2006

PYALARA attended the World Economic Forum on the Middle East, which took place on 20-22 May 2006 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Under the theme “The Promise of a New Generation”, that was the foremost gathering of global and regional leaders in the Middle East this year, bringing together over 1,000 of the most influential figures from politics, business and civil society.

In 2006, the electoral success of Hamas, the delicate situation in Iraq, shifting power balances in the region and the oil-fuelled economic boom have combined to create a unique set of circumstances full of risks but also presenting new opportunities. Prospects for peace, democracy and economic development could be greatly affected by the response of the region’s leaders and the international community.

The Forum focused on those challenges, shaping the regional agenda towards bold decisions that would provide hope and opportunity for young people.

As the forum organizers believe that such challenges must be tackled through open dialogue and interaction involving the engagement of all parts of the global community. PYALARA was asked to participate to draw on its experience and expertise, and to help connect with the younger generation whose future is at stake in the Middle East. Other sub themes were discussed such as the rule of law, peace, security and international relations, and issues of youth culture and identity.

Participants were drawn from highest level of government and business, as well as top experts and civil society representatives, PYALARA’s group consisted of Saleem Al Habash, the manager editor of “The Youth Times”, 24 years old, Rasha Othman , the head of the well being department at PYALARA, 26 years old, Iman Sharabati, a reporter at “The Youth Times, 21 years old and Ruba Al Mimi, a presetor of “Alli Sotak”, 18 years old.
