The Palestinian Youth Association for Leadership And Rights
Activation-PYALARA, in cooperation with the
United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF and
the Media Institute in Birzeit University,
completed last week three courses in the
Print and Visual Journalism, that were
conducted in 2005.
During this year, PYALARA worked on training more than 100
young journalists aged between 14-25 years
old according to three training programmes,
the first: "Youth 4 Journalism and CRC"
(Child Rights' Convention) financed by
UNICEF, the programme targeted adolescents
from 14-18 years old, where a group of
professional Palestinian journalists
participated in the training that took place
in the middle and northern West Bank, in
addition to the Gaza Strip. About 75
participants participated in the training,
which was formed in 14 workshops during
three months. PYALARA is keen to see those
adolescents as reporters of "The Youth
Times", especially that they represent the
Youth sector in Palestine with all its
interests and needs.

Other programmes that were and are conducted by PYALARA are
apart of the framework of TAWASOL project
"Forum of Palestinian young journalists".
One of these training programmes is a
specialized training on developing the
material for producing short films and
public services' advertisements. This
programme was led by Dr. Irving Rother, from
the Canadian University of McGILL, where
about 12 young journalists from several
areas in the West Bank "Ramallah, Jerusalem,
Hebron and Nablus" took part in the
training. Three short films were produced
during the training that reflect the reality
of the Palestinian Youth, these films will
be distributed shortly on the local,
regional and international tracks.
The third programme is implemented by PYALARA in cooperation
with the Media institute in Birzeit
University and the Swedish institute of FOYO
for journalists training, and is specialized
in the Print Journalism, News Story and
feature.
The training that was focused on developing the news stories
and features, was led by the two Swedish
trainers: Eva-Bia Orland and Emi Anderson,
where a number of stories and features that
will be published in "The Youth Times", in
addition to the web site of the project.
TAWASOL "Forum of Palestinian Young Journalists" was
established last March, as a result of
recommendations by the leading Media
Conference "Media for the Future" that was
held by PYALARA last November 2004. The
forum aims at organizing Youth Media in
Palestine, through enhancing the
capabilities of the young journalists and
media practitioners, in order to meet the
needs of the Palestinian media nowadays, and
in line with the development's objectives in
Palestine.
In the future, PYALARA is going to train more groups from the
young journalists, in addition to providing
specialized training the old cadre. And in
the coming months, PYALARA is planning to
hold "A Job creation day" for the graduates
of Media and Journalism students, where
media institutions working in Palestine will
be invited to help in creating jobs for the
young journalists.
It's worthy to mention that in 1998, PYALARA took a leading
initiative by establishing "The Youth
Times", which created a real change in the
reality of the Palestinian media since its
establishment seven years ago. This change
was linked with the active youth
participation in the media, in addition to
take the social responsibility towards Youth
in particular, and the community in general.
Moreover, PYALARA produces some TV shows,
one of them is the weekly 2-live-hour TV
show Alli Sotak "Speak up" that is
edited and presented by Youth under 25 years
old, and broadcasted on the Palestinian TV
with its land and satellite channels.
