During
this year’s summer break, PYALARA conducted
a series of workshops and other activities
for school children as part of the ‘Hand in
Hand’ Project, which was funded by the
Crises Intervention Project 2002/Friedrich
Naumann Stiftung.
It should be noted that 45
university students were hired to coordinate
the project and organize various activities
for in excess of 200 school students in the
three locations of Ar-Ram, Hizma and
Qalandya refugee camp. As well as attending
supplementary math, English and Arabic
classes, the students also took part in
various extracurricular activities and
participated in several workshops, including
ones on drugs and International Humanitarian
Law in Times of Crises and coping
mechanisms.
Worthy of mention is the fact that the
project was implemented in coordination with
a number of Palestinian schools in the three
areas involved as well as the Palestinian
Ministry of Education, UNRWA, Ar-Ram
Charitable Association (Ar-Ram), the
Qalandya Club (Qalandya), and the Muslim
Youth Association (Hizma).
